How to Make Walnut Baklava Recipe:
- First, let’s prepare the syrup for our dessert. For this, take sugar and water in a suitable saucepan.
After stirring, let’s bring our syrup to a boil.
- At the end of the time, add the lemon juice and let it simmer for a few more minutes, then remove it from the heat.
- For the baklava dough, mix eggs, vegetable oil, milk, vinegar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Then gradually add flour and knead the dough until it reaches a non-sticky consistency.
- Cover the kneaded dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes. This will make it much easier to roll out the dough.
- After the time is up, take the dough onto the counter and knead it a couple more times to shape it.
- First, divide the dough evenly into 3 pieces, then divide each piece into 9 pieces.
- Knead the divided pieces from the outside to the inside, rolling them into balls. In total, we’ll have 27 balls.
- Once all the pieces are shaped into balls, cover them with plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out until we finish rolling out the dough.
- Take one of the balls onto the counter sprinkled with cornstarch, and roll it out with a rolling pin to the size of a dessert plate. 11- Repeat this process for the first 9 balls, stacking them on top of each other with cornstarch in between.
- Then roll out the prepared 9-layer dough to a size slightly larger than the baking dish, flipping it occasionally. When you flip the dough, the smaller layers underneath will expand evenly.
- Then carefully separate the layers of dough.
- Place the thin, pastry-like baklava dough onto our baking dish. You can either separate the layers like I do or place them without separating.
- After placing the first 9 layers in the baking dish, sprinkle crushed walnuts on top. You can also use hazelnuts or pistachios at this stage if you prefer.
- Repeat the same process for the other 9 balls, stacking them on top of each other with cornstarch in between. Then expand to the size of the baking dish.
- Separate the expanded dough layers again and place them on our baking dish. If you’re going to place the layers one by one and have enough space, you can lay out the doughs somewhere to prevent them from drying out for 3-4 minutes.
- Sprinkle crushed walnuts on top of the doughs placed in the baking dish.
- Apply the same procedures for the last 9 balls, expanding them to the size of the baking dish and placing them on top.
- When cutting our baklava, first cut it into 4 pieces. Then divide these 4 pieces into small triangles.
- Finally, drizzle the melted butter and vegetable oil mixture over ourbaklava and bake in a preheated 170°C oven for about 1 hour.
- After the time is up, pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava and let it rest to absorb the syrup. Enjoy to those who will try it.
