Recipe table of content:

I’ve chosen to bake some scones because they appear to be simple to make and need little work.
If you looking for recipe scones and it’s your first time making them, this recipe, termed “The best ever scones” by the Thermomix community, has a lot of good reviews and is very simple to make.

I had the dough ready to mold into scones in less than a minute in the tm6.
Jordan, my 3-year-old son, assisted me in cutting the scones and placing them on the baking sheet.
In the meantime, the scones were baking in the oven.

These better-than-the-bakery treats are flaky, flavorful, and moist with crisp crumbly edges. Learn how to make scones with this easy scone recipe. They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch or afternoon tea.

Ingredients : 12 scones

Sometimes recipes with the least amount of ingredients are the hardest to perfect. Scones can be one of those tricky recipes.

  • 400g self raising flour
  • 20g butter at room temperature
  • 30g sugar
  • 125ml milk
  • 125ml cream
  • 1 egg
  • extra flour for dusting
  • extra milk for glazing

Variations :

To make fruit scones, add some sultanas or chopped dates. You could also add lemon peel or grated orange.

Method to make recipe scones :

1- Start by preheating the oven to 220 C.

2- Line a baking plate with baking paper.

3- In the thermomix bowl, combine flour and butter and mix on speed 9 for 8 to 10 seconds, or until bread crumb consistency is achieved.
If you don’t have a thermomix, combine the flour and butter in a food processor and pulse on high for 8 to 10 seconds, or until bread crumb consistency is achieved.

4- Add the other ingredients to the mixer and mix on speed 4 for 5 to 10 seconds, or until everything is incorporated.
Turn on medium speed for 5 to 10 seconds if using a non-thermomix.

5 – Slightly knead the ingredients until it is evenly distributed.
Knead for 30 seconds on interval speed in the thermomix.

6 – On a well-floured surface, pour the dough mixture and lightly pat it into a 3cm thickness.
NOTE: The dough will be very light and sticky, which is perfectly OK.

7 – Using scone cutters (or any round shapes), cut into rounds.
I didn’t have a scones cutter, so I used the lid of a baby formula bottle instead.)

8 – Arrange scones on a lined oven pan, touching each other.

9 – Glaze with a little milk and bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 220 degrees Celsius in a very hot oven.
It took 10 minutes in my oven, and I had to shift my tray halfway through.

10. Allow to cool before serving on a wire rack.

Tips : If you don’t want to bake the entire recipe, cut off the scones and freeze them. So, on another day, you can just pop the frozen dough rounds into the oven and bake them for 25 minutes at 180°C/350°F/gas 4, or until golden and delicious.

This simple recipe for traditional  Scones can be prepared, baked and served in 30 minutes.

Suggestions for Serving :

Traditional scones are best served with jam and clotted cream right out of the oven. If you can’t get your hands on clotted cream, whipped cream will work. You may also use lemon curd or a generous amount of butter to spread them.

For the quintessential afternoon tea time treat, I like serving my scones with vanilla ice cream. Checkout ice cream recipe here.

“Scones are delightfully British, delectable, and so easy to make that even a five-year-old could do it.”
I can’t see why anyone would prefer store-bought scones during that magical hour right after they come out of the oven when they’re so delicious.
“Start baking!”
